Save Mother Earth—two wheels at a time!

Throughout my life, I have benefited from the effects of regular exercise and I wanted to promote those benefits. After 21 years of touching the future by teaching science to 13 year olds, I felt an urge to take my life in a different direction. Selling bicycles seemed a good way to affect the health and wellness of many people, so it was off to the United Bicycle Institute in Ashland, Oregon to learn some of the ins and outs of bicycle mechanics and bike shop management.

 

I have been a bicycle tourist, racer, and commuter and have always done my own adjustments, replacements, and repairs. However, until I went to bike school, I did not realize how little I knew about bikes. That has changed, but there is always more to learn.

 

There is still some teacher in me and I enjoy passing on knowledge about how to make simple adjustments or ride more efficiently. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for me), many of the adjustments require special tools that are not found in the typical home workshop. However, if I can help remove some of the mechanical mystery, maybe more people will ride more often. I think Mom would like that.
